AOG's downstream division to buy BP's LPG distribution businesses in South Africa

20 March 2013

AOG's downstream energy division, Oryx Energies, has agreed to purchase the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution businesses of BP and Masana Petroleum Solutions (of which BP owns a 45 percent stake) in South Africa.

The deal is expected to be completed during Q3 2013, subject to completion of all the required legal and regulatory approvals.

Following the purchase of Engen Uganda in November 2012, this new acquisition by Oryx Energies confirms our commitment to expanding this newly-merged trading and downstream platform, in order to respond to the evolving energy needs of sub-Saharan Africa.

It also reflects the strategy of promoting LPG as as a cleaner, more environmentally friendly and affordable alternative to firewood, charcoal and kerosene across the continent - a strategy that has been pursued since the late 1990s.
